Getting Involved to Give Back

Mike Jelinske, The Associate Board’s

Was one of your New Year’s resolutions to give back and get more involved with your community?

Mike Jelinske answered the call two years ago when he became a member of one of NorthShore University HealthSystem’s (NorthShore) volunteer membership groups. The Associate Board is an organization of young professionals whose fundraising events and service programs benefit the Infant Special Care Unit and Department of Pediatrics at NorthShore Evanston Hospital. Jelinske has served as a member of the recruitment and sponsorships committees and is now the Board’s President-Elect.

In this Q and A, Jelinske talks about why he is passionate about giving back and why he encourages others to join him.

Q: How do you give back?

A: For me, giving back is more than just a monetary commitment. It’s about providing my time, energy and skills to help a worthy organization like NorthShore make a truly positive impact on someone’s life.

Q: Why do you give back?

A: I give back because it’s incredibly rewarding…especially if you’re passionate about the cause!

Q: What impact has volunteering had on your life?

A: It’s had a profound impact. My general attitude in life is to try to make the world a better place and enjoy every minute of every day. By serving others as a member of NorthShore’s Associate Board, I get closer to accomplishing that goal.

Q: What would you say to others to encourage them to give back in some way?

A: The most successful relationships I have are with people and organizations I do more for than they do for me. As the old saying goes, “What goes around, comes around.”

An easy way to check out The Associate Board is by attending one of their monthly social events. Next up: Pac-Man, NBA Jam and More at Headquarters Beercade in Lakeview on Friday, February 21. Learn more

NorthShore has many other opportunities for involvement as well. Together, members of The Auxiliary of NorthShore University HealthSystem, The Auxiliary of NorthShore at Highland Park Hospital and The Associate Board have raised more than $20 million to benefit leading-edge research and patient care programs through their events and initiatives. Membership provides volunteers an opportunity to network with like-minded community members while making a direct impact on healthcare in our community.
