Benefit to Support Head and Neck Cancer Patients

Friends for the past 18 years, two women have found themselves in the same position: facing head and neck cancer, a seemingly rare condition that accounts for 4 percent of all cancers diagnosed in the United States, but one that lacks community awareness, support and funding for research. Gail Paskind and Audrey Alvarado are trying to change that.

The friends, supporters and several cancer survivors are planning a fundraiser and get-together on Friday, November 9 at Curt’s Café on Central Street in Evanston. By forming a not-for-profit named HeadStrong Voices for Healing, Paskind and Alvarado—together with fellow Board member Karen Dinelli—are hoping to gain interest and support for their NorthShore physicians who are treating a variety of head and neck cancers at NorthShore Kellogg Cancer Center.

Head and neck cancers encompass the larynx, oral cavity and pharynx, as well as the salivary glands, thyroid/parathyroid and nasal cavity. The NorthShore Head and Neck Program treats a variety of head and neck cancers and has a robust clinical and translational research program. If you would like to support the fundraising event and learn more, please contact Gail Paskind at 847.767.1765 or email her at More information is also available at
