Area of Greatest Need

We like to believe we can plan for everything. But life doesn’t always work that way. Life has a way of keeping us on our toes, continually evolving. Donors to the Area of Greatest Need Fund help NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) keep up with that evolution by providing general support for the broad purpose of fulfilling our mission “to preserve and improve human life.”

Healthcare must often adapt to the changing world, and philanthropic giving to the Area of Greatest Need allows NorthShore to support our patients and their families in important and unique ways. Donations to the Area of Greatest Need help finance many programs and research projects, including new patient-centered therapies, continual patient safety improvements, seed money for research and the animal assisted therapy program.

“The animal assisted therapy program truly delivers patient support,” said Elizabeth Thorn, Supervisor of Rehabilitation Services at NorthShore. “It helps patients feel human again by providing a positive break in their day. Even for the staff, it gives them a mental and emotional break from the important work they’re doing and allows them to recharge by providing this valuable care.”

Giving to the Area of Greatest Need provides NorthShore with the flexibility to pursue unforeseen opportunities as they arise and to sustain excellence in our diverse healthcare programs and services. This keeps NorthShore at the top of our game, providing the best care in the most current, personalized way possible. It also helps us remain at the forefront of medicine both locally in the Chicagoland area and as a leading example for healthcare systems across the nation.
