The legacy of Janardan D. Khandekar, MBBS, MD, is extraordinary. His dream of building the Mark R. Neaman Center for Personalized Medicine improved patient care and fueled groundbreaking research. From making house calls to taking a holistic approach to caring for the whole family, his compassion as a caregiver has touched the lives of thousands of patients and families. During his 46 years as an educator, Dr. Khandekar has shaped the next generation of physicians by training more than 500 residents and 12 physicians from India in oncology through a fellowship established in memory of his father.
In addition to serving as the Director of Innovation and Education for the Neaman Center, Dr. Khandekar is a Clinical Professor at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He holds the Board of Directors/Janardan D. Khandekar, MD, Chair of Molecular Medicine and is also the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee for the NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) Kellogg Cancer Center.

Dr. Khandekar has brought his compassion, expertise and commitment to NorthShore for more than four decades. He is the founding Head of the Division of Medical Oncology. He was appointed Director of the Kellogg Cancer Center and Kellogg-Scanlon endowed chair. During his tenure as Chairman of the Department of Medicine at NorthShore and Professor of Medicine, the department enjoyed an unprecedented level of growth. He established new divisions and programs and recruited new faculty members and researchers. Dr. Khandekar is a mentor to international physicians through the American Society of Clinical Oncology and has authored or co-authored 116 peer-reviewed papers and more than 60 other publications.
