From her very first days in residency, Amy Yuan Wang, MD, fell in love with hematology. The special bonds she established with patients gave her a profound sense of purpose. And after spending time training at NorthShore, she knew it was where she wanted to build her career. She felt supported and encouraged—not only by her mentors, but also by her colleagues.
Years later, Dr. Wang is proud to say she’s grown even more impressed with the culture of NorthShore. To her, the secret sauce is the strong commitment to working collaboratively across disciplines so that every patient experiences the most personalized care.
That collaboration is what connected her with Jeffrey (Jeff) Doman, a patient who had collapsed and was rushed to the Emergency Department at NorthShore. After initial testing, Jeff was suspected to have amyloidosis—a rare condition, associated with myeloma, that Dr. Wang had experience treating.
Jeff’s cardiologist, Dr. Jason Robin, called me directly to talk about his case. I was able to get Jeff into my clinic right away to complete a full evaluation and confirm his diagnosis quickly.”

Jeff began his treatment immediately, which helped minimize any damage to his heart and stop the disease from progressing further. Thankfully, he didn’t experience significant side effects and was able to continue doing the things he loved, like playing pickup basketball and spending time on the golf course.
For Dr. Wang, watching patients like Jeff recover inspires her to keep going, even on the most challenging days. “The Domans are wonderful human beings,” she said. “I love taking care of kind people. It makes me feel very fulfilled at the end of each day.”
And for Jeff, the feeling is mutual. In fact, he credits Dr. Wang and Dr. Robin with saving his life and restoring his hope and good health. He’s grateful for “the small things,” like celebrating more birthdays and anniversaries with his wife, Sue.
NorthShore gave Jeff the gift of more time. Now he can’t imagine going anywhere else in the future—a testament to his incredible doctors and their expert, compassionate care.
Celebrate Our NorthShore Doctors on March 30!
Every day, our physicians at NorthShore go above and beyond for every one of their patients. And it isn’t just about providing expert care; it’s also about the compassion they show in very real, very difficult moments. National Doctors’ Day, March 30, is a perfect opportunity to recognize NorthShore physicians for their selfless commitment to serving our community and keeping our neighbors healthy.
We invite you to celebrate our doctors by making a gift as an expression of your gratitude—and a way to advance their lifesaving work.
