We’re thrilled to announce that a new, much-anticipated world-class heart care facility is ready to serve the North Shore and beyond. It’s a dream realized, and it was worth the wait.
The Endeavor Health Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) pavilion at Glenbrook Hospital—a 170,000-square-foot facility that provides cutting-edge, comprehensive heart care in a single landing place, from diagnosis to treatment—opened its doors to patient care on May 13.
“With the CVI at Glenbrook, we’re bringing together services and coalescing expertise in a way that ensures the highest quality of patient care,” said Gregory J. Mishkel, MD, MBA, the Allstate Foundation/Judson B. Branch Chair of Cardiology, Chief of the Division of Cardiology, and VP and Co-Director of the Cardiac Service Line at Endeavor Health NorthShore Hospitals.
“The entire concept is designed around the needs of our patients and their families – improving their experience, providing compassionate care from dedicated experts and ultimately improving outcomes that help our patients return home and get back to doing what they love sooner,” he continued.
The new state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for specialized staff and world-class experts, ensuring better outcomes and quicker recovery for patients.
Since the groundbreaking in July 2022, the NorthShore Hospitals Foundation, part of Endeavor Health, has been raising funds to support the health system’s commitment to improving cardiovascular care in the region. This includes a tripartite fundraising campaign to support ongoing cardiovascular research, education and training of fellows and physicians, and programs to ensure personalized patient experiences at the CVI pavilion.
The campaign was propelled by a transformative philanthropic gift from the Bergstrom Foundation and its president, Kelley Bergstrom. To honor this generous lead gift in the campaign, the pavilion’s surgical suite was named The Bergstrom Interventional and Surgical Center.
Other generous benefactors have joined the Bergstrom Foundation in making a commitment to Endeavor Health’s vision for comprehensive cardiovascular care, including the Pepper Family Foundation and several Endeavor Health executive leaders.
Celebrating a health system milestone
To mark this significant patient care milestone, a ribbon-cutting celebration was held on May 1 with Endeavor Health hospital leadership, system executive leaders, community members, health system board members, local elected officials, and team members from Integrated Facilities Solutions, Inc., the project management firm that oversaw construction.
“This incredible world-class facility would not be possible without the support and partnership of our board members and donors,” said Sean O’Grady, President of the North Region and Institutes at Endeavor Health.
“When we brought our vision for the Cardiovascular Institute and this facility to our Board a few years ago, they responded very positively but challenged us to think bigger,” O’Grady continued. “Thank you for believing in this vision and for inspiring us to continually push the boundaries.”
The CVI pavilion includes nine new cardiology procedure labs and six state-of-the-art surgical suites and will provide space for innovative clinical trials and research in addition to patient care.
The facility was designed to accommodate emerging technologies, from AI and robotics to advanced imaging, digital health, wearable devices and more. It was also constructed with sustainable features and energy efficiencies, including shaded glass, a green roof, and an energy-saving heating, ventilating and air conditioning system.
The opening of the Glenbrook Hospital CVI pavilion is the latest example of Endeavor Health’s focus on robust clinical institutes, including centralized locations for specialty medical services, while also meeting the vast array of healthcare needs across the system’s acute care hospitals in each of the system’s communities. For cardiovascular services, Endeavor Health ranks first in Illinois for cardiovascular outpatient surgeries and procedures and second in the state for all cardiovascular discharges and total cardiovascular surgeries and procedures.
