The NorthShore Foundation — the fundraising entity for NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore), a part of NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst Health — has announced a fundraising campaign to support the health system’s commitment to improving cardiovascular care in the region with the NorthShore Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) pavilion. Currently under construction at NorthShore Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview and expected to open in April 2024, the CVI pavilion will be a regional destination for advanced cardiovascular care.
The NorthShore Foundation fundraising campaign in support of the CVI pavilion is based on three core pillars:
- Ongoing cardiovascular research
- Education and training of CVI fellows and physicians
- Personalized patient experience
The campaign was propelled by a transformative philanthropic gift from the Bergstrom Foundation and its president, Kelley Bergstrom. To honor this generous lead gift in the campaign, the pavilion’s surgical suite — located on the first floor — will be named The Bergstrom Interventional and Surgical Center.
“NorthShore is building a first-class cardiovascular facility here in our community, with the most up-to-date surgical technology and innovative cardiovascular research in one place. The feature of the CVI pavilion will be the cardiovascular surgical suite, offering exceptional multidisciplinary patient care,” said Bergstrom. “The Bergstrom Foundation is proud to be a part of bringing this world-class care close to home for patients in our region.”
A testament to NorthShore’s commitment to expanding access to heart care in the region, the CVI pavilion will bring together leading-edge cardiovascular expertise for patient care and innovative clinical trials and research. The $170 million pavilion will serve as NorthShore’s hub for elective cardiac and vascular procedures, catheterizations and interventions, as well as open-heart surgery, structural heart procedures and electrophysiology studies. The complex will also become a focus for subspecialties — such as women’s heart health, sports cardiology, cardio-oncology and cardiac rehabilitation — and will house six CVI-dedicated operating rooms and nine cardiac catheterization labs.
