Volunteers from The Auxiliary of NorthShore spent December and January collecting 8,600 diapers for the Perinatal Family Support Center at NorthShore Evanston Hospital for area families in need.

The Perinatal Family Support Center provides a wide array of services to women and their families who experience challenges related to pregnancy, birth, prematurity and perinatal loss. The Center serves more than 1,600 families annually, and all services are provided free of charge.

“It took three carloads to transport the diapers to the hospital,” said Renee Ujiki, who co-chairs the committee with Auxiliary member Katie Linn. “We stored the diapers in our houses until we almost tripled the amount we had hoped to collect.” In the previous diaper drive, The Auxiliary collected more than 3,000 diapers, which were distributed to local families in need through the Center.

This year, the Committee surpassed their goals through both social media and asking friends and family to buy or donate funds for diapers, said Ujiki. Auxiliary Board member Ashley Delaney’s employer, Whitehall of Deerfield Healthcare Center, generously donated $500 for the diaper drive.
