Philanthropy Perspectives

Recognizing and inspiring YOUR charitable giving at NorthShore

July 2, 2019

A Message of Thanks

Thank you for your involvement and interest in Philanthropy Perspectives over the past decade. From modest beginnings, NorthShore Foundation’s e-newsletter has grown to where we are today, with more than 225,000 people receiving inspiring stories of gratitude and giving to their email inbox every two months. We hope you’ve felt as informed and inspired when reading through the past 60 issues as we did putting each newsletter together for you. A special thanks to the many donors who have allowed us to feature the story behind their very personal reason for making a gift to NorthShore. Thanks also to the physicians, nurses, researchers and administrators who have taken the time to help us highlight and explain the very real need for philanthropy in everything we do on behalf of the patients we are so privileged to serve each and every day. Read more

Urological Research and Care, Powered by Giving

Philanthropic support plays a pivotal role in advancing urology research and care at NorthShore’s John and Carol Walter Center for Urological Health. Building on transformational giving in 2011, many generous donors have since helped NorthShore create a destination for personalized urological care that’s informed and driven by scientific discovery and led by Urology Division Chief and Ronald L. Chez Family and Richard Melman Family Chair of Prostate Cancer Brian T. Helfand, MD, PhD.

Dr. Helfand talked with Philanthropy Perspectives about the importance of philanthropy and the latest in urological care and research at NorthShore.

Michael Matters Foundation Helping Patients in Need

In 2012, Michael Schostok lost his battle with brain cancer at age 51, only two months before his 25th wedding anniversary. A successful attorney and devoted husband and father, Schostok left a legacy of compassion, and family and friends turned their tremendous loss into a powerful opportunity to help others.

The Michael Matters Foundation was born to both raise public awareness of the deadly disease—brain tumors remain one of the most complex and lethal cancers—and provide desperately needed financial assistance to others fighting their own health battle. Read more
